What is The BioSpiritual Institute?

1. What is The BioSpiritual Institute?

We believe life is meant to be lived more abundantly. We believe there is an inner knowing within us that can heal the wounds within, help us to set life burdens down, and make it possible to free ourselves from places in in our lives where we are stuck. We also believe that this inner source of meaning also is the place that connects us deeply with the life experiences of our history as well as our immersion in ALL that there is. It opens new horizons of spiritual experience.   It is a place of wholeness and Grace – enriching our inner life, our relationships with each other and with the entire Cosmos.

For us, BioSpiritual Focusing is a spiritual practice that is the doorway to all of this.  It is a way of living in awareness of what our bodies know as well as what our minds think– a key to living in the “now”..  It is the path to going within and beyond ourselves. It lets us physically experience the power of Grace in all its possibilities.  It’s everyday mysticism.

As an organization, the BioSpiritual Focusing Institute has a clear, simple priority: to create and support a network of local grassroots presences that enable individuals and groups to learn and practice the gifting experience of BioSpiritual Focusing.  It does this by offering on-line education courses,  supporting regional Focusing centers with ongoing educational resources, and network coordination and logistics assistance. It also offers an extensive data base of BioSpiritual Focusing resources and self-guided BioSpiritual experiences on its website.

The Institute is an international community of people–parents, counselors, health care providers, hospice volunteers, clergy and sisters, teachers, therapists, retreat house staffs and spiritual guides–in fact, anyone dedicated to peace-making through human wholeness. We believe this involves taking the actual body-steps that invite the gift dimension of life (“grace”) to unfold within ourselves and in our relationships with others.

Through developing the habit of noticing and nurturing our important feelings, we take time to open our body’s awareness (not just our mental processes), so that we may experience a “body-sense” for the giftedness of life and the deep inner connection of all things. This is what we mean by  “BioSpirituality.”

If you are interested in the history of how the BioSpiritual Institute came to be, you  go to our online library and click on the Institute History folder for more details.

Through this website, publications, and our network of education centers, we share very practical, teachable skills and attitudes that help us live a peace-making process in our daily lives. We look forward to hearing from you and invite you to join us.

2. Membership Information

Members of the The BioSpiritual Institute are the principal support of on-going research efforts, outreach, and the creation of new resources developed by this organization. Without their continuing interest and participation, such development would never have happened.

The creation of this website, as well as any further development of resources to be added here in the future, may be traced directly to member encouragement, interest, and on-going support. If you are in any way helped by what you learn here on this site, either for yourself personally, for family and friends, or in the work that you do, we encourage you to consider becoming a member of this Institute.

We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has been incorporated in the State of Wisconsin since 1980. Membership is $30.00 a year.   You may also wish to make a donation and contribute to the development and maintenance of this website as well as helping to establish a world-wide network among our members through our central office. If you wish to become a member and be placed on our email contact listing, click on the Membership/Donations icon below.

Once again, we thank you for your interest and look forward to hearing from you.
