The BioSpiritual Institute

Welcome to a Journey you can make inside yourself

The Benedictine Center-St. Paul Monastery

Our Charism: BioSpirituality and Benedictine Wellness/Nutrition

Continuing the Health and Wellness Legacy of the Sisters of St. Paul’s Monastery

Sister Virginia Matter, OSB, practiced as a registered nurse throughout her vocational years and pioneered the integration of contemplative practices, such as Centering Prayer and BioSpiritual Focusing, into the wellness community offerings provided by the Benedictine Center of St. Paul’s Monastery. As Sister Virginia retires from active ministry, The Benedictine CARE Wellness Program has been developed to continue her legacy of integrating the Benedictine Monastic Tradition and Contemplative Practices into ongoing wellness formation.

Integrating the Benedictine Tradition, Wellness and BioSpirituality

The Benedictine CARE Wellness Program focuses on experiential wellness formation and guidance through the active process of change. Benedictine CARE utilizes the challenges of ordinary life around self-care choices (food, activity, and stress recovery) to identify and disrupt existing habits and patterns. Rather than providing lists of substitutions and distractions, Benedictine CARE introduces how BioSpirituality, how listening rather than numbing discomfort, is the true source of sustainable change. If we skip this process, we stay stuck in undesirable patterns.
Benedictine CARE provides multiple meeting opportunities each week to share what you experience as you really try to disrupt these patterns and to provide companionship as you stay still long enough to “listen”.

Upcoming Events:

Introduction to BioSpirituality Workshop: COMING SOON!
In the Prologue of the Rule of St. Benedict, St. Benedict gently instructs us to “listen to my instructions and attend to them with the ear of your heart”. This introductory workshop will explore what this means to “attend with the ear of our hearts”. What role does the body (Bio) have in our spirituality? What is opened to us when we reconnect Bio + Spirituality? How does BioSpirituality increase our receptivity to the Divine?
