The BioSpiritual Institute

Welcome to a Journey you can make inside yourself

Why BioSpiritual Focusing?

BioSpiritual Focusing is a fundamental pathway to a holistic approach to spiritual growth.

Over the past centuries attention has been centered on the utilization of the mind and conceptual thought as the way to religious experience and spiritual growth. When the limits of knowledge and reason were reached, we were told to take a leap of faith in order to resonate with the movements of the Divine in our lives. The role of our bodies in experiencing the Divine was rarely addressed and when it was, the body was portrayed as a barrier and our feelings and emotions were seen as something to be controlled and nullified. Spirituality has been taught and practiced from the neck up.

Yet the reality of spiritual experience is that one cannot think his or her way to an experience of the Divine. If this were the case, the smartest folks around would be the most spiritual.

Our bodies are more than just the physical biological systems that enable us to navigate our survival in the environments in which we footprints2 brian Mannfind ourselves. They are our direct connection not only to our immediate surroundings but they also make our interaction with the entire Universe a possibility. They hold the energy of all our life experiences and contain the implicit potential of the next best step forward toward a life of fullness, authenticity and compassion. In their connection to the Universe our bodies are our direct link to the Spirit that fills the Universe ( the Divine, the “More”, or whatever imperfect name one might give to That which is beyond us ).

When a person focuses from a BioSpiritual perspective, one is tapping into the inner wisdom held in the body and the “felt-shifts” that may occur in the BioSpiritual flow are a direct experience of the “grace” of the Divine. This is not a matter of theology, psychology or philosophy. It is beyond all of them. It is attainable by each and every person who walks this earth and, in essence, makes “mystical experiences” possible for everyone.

BioSpiritual Focusing is an invitation to a new perspective and approach to spirituality and spiritual growth that includes both the body and the mind.

What makes BioSpiritual Focusing significant today is that it offers a fresh and holistic approach to spiritual transformation and healthy, vibrant living. It raises the possibility that people can find freedom from those places in their lives where they are stuck. Old patterns and habits can be transformed. New strength can be found in dealing with the myriad of personal addictions that have arisen because of the inability to be with strong or negative emotions in a healthy way.

In these days when traditional religions are not meeting the spiritual needs of many people, BioSpiritual Focusing offers a new opportunity for individuals and communities to deeply connect with the “More” that sustains us. The habit of BioSpiritual “felt-sensing” is an embodied spirituality that can be life-giving, healing and lead to both life-giving and healing, which leads to an inner peace as well as peace with all those who walk this earth with us.
